Wildflower Composers Presents: The Bergamot Quarte

  • MAAS Building 1325 N Randolph St Philadelphia, PA, 19122 United States (map)

Wildflower Composers and MAAS proudly present the Bergamot Quartet! The quartet will perform works by faculty and guest composers at the 2025 Wildflower Composers Festival: Melissa Dunphy, Cerulean Payne-Passmore, Sepehr Pirasteh, Erin Busch, and Caroline Shaw.

Bergamot Quartet is fueled by a passion for exploring and advocating for the music of living composers with creative programming, community-oriented audience building, and frequent commissioning. The quartet is in high demand as interpreters and co-creators of new music, having premiered hundreds of works by students of all ages and developed numerous significant new pieces with composers at the forefront of contemporary concert music.

Based in New York City, Bergamot Quartet is Ledah Finck and Sarah Thomas, violins; Amy Tan, viola; and Irène Han, cello. Bergamot Quartet was the inaugural Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the Mannes School of Music 2020-2022, where they were mentored by the JACK Quartet.

Wildflower Composers is a 501c3 nonprofit in Philadelphia that supports and amplifies female, transgender, nonbinary, and gendequeer composers by providing accessible and high-quality programming, resources, and mentorship to a global community of early-career composers. They envision a truly equitable and diverse field of contemporary music, where composers of all identities have the opportunities and resources they need to succeed.

Wildflower offers an annual summer festival at Temple University for composers between the ages of 13–19, as well as a suite of year-round virtual mini-courses, a workshopping program for local composers, and a growing list of paid opportunities for program alumni in collaboration with local presenters and organizations.
