Multi-instrumentalists Gabriel Furtado and Ben Cocchiaro have spent three years fermenting and distilling a flammable repertoire of flatpick/fingerstyle guitar duets drawn from the old-time and shape note traditions. Recorded with warmth and spontaneity, their new album ranges from intricate, hypnotic arrangements of traditional and contemporary fiddle tunes to raggy bastardizations of 18th century fuguing hymns. Opener is fingerstyle guitarist Andy McLeod, a master of building connections between the string music of other people, places and times.
