MAAS & Magnetic Dog Presents: KATH BLOOM + DAVID SHAPIRO with Cara Beth Satalino & Loveraisin

  • MAAS Building 1325 N Randolph St Philadelphia, PA, 19122 United States (map)

Kath Bloom is a quietly legendary artist: producing what are now thought of as forgotten masterpieces of folk since the late 70s. Her recent collaboration with David Shapiro (also known as Alexander) has brought her music to a wider audience - and now she’s back in Philly.

Also up are local folk-rocker Cara Beth Satalino, and a rare performance from Loveraisin (aka mirra of psych-folk collective Wrinkle). A perfect Fall evening.

Kath Bloom is a quietly legendary artist. Bloom started releasing music in the late 70s through New Haven, CT based micro-label Daggett Records, and later St. Joan Records. While these records did not attract much attention in their day they are now hailed as forgotten masterpieces of fragile, introspective folk. Bloom would then take a long pause from performing or releasing music publicly, though she never stopped writing. In the late 90s Bloom reemerged with occasional releases and performances.

In 2017 she began collaborating with guitarist David Shapiro, who is known for his work under solo moniker, Alexander, as well as performing with psych wanderers Headroom and experimentalists Center. This collaboration has led to a resurgence in Bloom’s career. She is performing and touring more than ever and is recording more new material than she has for some time. In 2020 @dearliferecs released the album Bye Bye These Are The Days, and those sessions also birthed the three tracks of the 2022 Long Way To Go Home 7” on @csiterecordings

@carabethsatalino

Cara Beth Satalino is a Philadelphia based singer-songwriter. Formerly active in the Baltimore music scene with her indie rock project Outer Spaces (Western Vinyl, Don Giovanni Records), Cara Beth and family moved to Philly over the pandemic and, after a series of life changes, started work on a more stripped down and personal set of songs.  The result was her gorgeous 2024 album Little Green released on the Worried Songs label out of the UK, a warm and intimate folk-rock record sure to tug at the heartstrings.

“The songs on Little Green are tender, vulnerable, and absolutely engrossing. It’s hard to ignore Satalinio’s candlelight lilt, the kind of songs that are born of quiet moments, doubt, dreams, luck, memory, and melancholy. The songs, with their inherent quiver, are some of the strongest in Satalino’s catalog.” - Raven Sings The Blues

Loveraisin

Opening up the night is a very special and rare solo performance by Loveraisin (mirra of psych-folk collective Wrinkle). With melodies foraged from experiences deep and magical, Loveraisin’s debut is sure to be a memorable occasion.

It all adds up to what should be a perfect fall evening. Trust me folks, you’ll want to come here.
