Tango Guitar Workshop with Alejo de los Reyes Part I

Developed for guitarists, this workshop traces tango back to its roots in Argentine folk music and presents the fundamentals of tango guitar playing. Conducted in two parts in chronological order.

PART 1: Tuesday, 3/14 4-6:30pm
- Fundamentals of tango rhythm on guitar
- Tango voicing and chords
- Origins and influences of tango, from Spanish Baroque music to the music of the Pampas region
- Right hand techniques of Chacarera and Zamba rhythm
- Early tango style: Carlos Gardel and his guitars

PART 2: Tuesday, 3/21 4-6:30pm
- Fundamentals of pick technique development of South American music
- Brief study on various ways of producing sound with a pick: joint and separate finger, wrist and arm action
- Characteristics of guitar ensembles playing South American music
- Notable guitar ensembles of the 20th and 21st century

$60 per session $100 for 2 sessions (Recommend taking both as they build on each other)
