Done! Thanks to the guys at South Philly Barbacoa
We welcomed Philadelphia born and raised, NEA Master and Grammy Award nominee, jazz trombonist Angel R. “Papo” Vasquez. In a career that has spanned four decades in the Latin jazz and salsa world, he has performed with Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colón, Fran Foster, Ray Charles, Wayne Shorter, Tito Puente, Hilton Ruiz, and Dizzy Gillespie.
There was delicious food, networking, art auctions, and more!
All proceeds support Taller Puertorriqueño’s Art-Education Programs for Children and Youth.
MAAS had a great time hosting Spirit Forward, Home Brewed Events and Brew Crew Events as they presented NOSHHH. This Speakeasy themed vendor showcase was a rip roaring time! We sampled hand-crafted cocktails, beer and food from the newest Philadelphia businesses! United By Blue, Chocamo Cookie Cups and The Bees Knees are just a few! We all had a great time enjoying these local eats and drinks while listening to live jazz from Ensemble Novo.
The Philadelphia premiere of the independent film "Roxie"
ROXIE is the story of two 60-year-old marriage and family therapists going down the rabbit hole of recklessness, seduction and sex. Friends and colleagues for longer than they care to remember, Dave is forever enticing Joel into risky adventures. With Joel’s second marriage failing and Dave perpetually forgetting his own marriage, they take off for a Marriage and Family Therapists conference in San Francisco where Dave convinces Joel that they should hire escorts. It is here that their lives start to unravel. Joel falls in love with the escort Roxie, who has been around a little too long and seen a little too much, while Dave frantically tries to get someone to actually care about him. In ROXIE you will see secrets uncovered, notions of love confronted and friendship tested in ways never imagined.
Starting to frame out the 5th Side and Hi5 Live Room.
Join Tech In Motion for an evening at the intersection of technology and fashion, with a side of cocktails and Google Glass! In the midst of Philadelphia Fashion Week, the Tech Trunk Show is bringing to center stage three local experts of the IT behind the retail curtain. Sip on a craft cocktail from our featured liquor sponsor, Art in the Age, while networking with some of the best tech minds in the greater Philadelphia area during a garden cocktail reception. Later, hear from some of the local experts that are innovating Google Glass applications, mobile shopping and cloud-based fulfillment systems in ways that may soon change the way even fashionistas shop. Stick around, and maybe you’ll get the chance to chat them up about it.
We're excited to offer all guests who are new to Uber a complimentary ride up to $20 for the Tech Trunk Show. Sign up and ride in style with promo code: “TECHTRUNKSHOW”. (Shhh, but you can also snag a gift card at the event in our Tech Trunk Show grab bags.)
We always have a good time with the Urban Academy kids.
Brandt, another Tyler student that we somehow duped into donning a sandblaster and working on the Maas Building, puts on his senior BFA thesis show here.
Michael and Will, two of Ben's students from the Tyler School of Art (and sometimes Maas construction workers) mounted their senior BFA thesis show at Maas.
With no takers on the upstairs Maas Space as an office (obviously all the architects and design firms in Philly were busy smoking crack) we start renting the space out for shows, rehearsals, and parties. An unforeseen turn of events in our plans, but honestly, it has turned out to be not such a bad Plan B (although I believe it has taken us over a year to fully wrap our heads around the concept of a cleaning deposit.)
